In ancient Greece, the term stadium was defined as a footrace over a distance 192 m. This distance measurement was then later used as a description for the competition facility. Nowadays a stadium is considered a total competitive sporting complex with field, oval-shaping running track, shot put, javelin and broad jump facilities as well as viewer seats and press boxes. Nowadays, stadia are not only simply sporting sites, but also act as tourist attractions, distinguishing features and gathering place for clubs. This tendency has led to increased value being placed upon architecture in stadium design. Additional uses for covered stadia may include stores, offices, hotels and restaurants. In the following, various solutions of modern stadia design are presented. In so doing, examples of various use types and sizes will be addressed.
32 projects are introduced, they are catching the eyes because of an extraordinary architecture. As well the "inner life" with VIP lounges will be shown. Included are all 12 stadiums which are scene of the soccer world championship 2006. Plans and sketches will be enclosed to every project.
Steve McQueen found it hard to balance worldwide fame with a desperate need for solitude. Through performances that were effortless yet powerful, he connected with the people who saw him on stage, on television, in movie houses, and on magazine covers anywhere on earth. Sometimes more comfortable racing a motorcycle than in front of a camera, twice at the height of his stardom he took more than a year off from movies. Despite this, and despite dying young, he left an indelible imprint. Images, his own words, and the words of others chronicle his rise from juvenile delinquent to the highest paid star in Hollywood.
With Salvador Dalí at its mast, the great ship of Surrealism launched off into the wild and turbulent sea of the Roaring Twenties, its sails puffed full of winds blown by Sigmund Freud and André Breton. With dreamlike, fantastic imagery, the Surrealists made great, sensational waves in the art world. The influence of artists such as Dalí, Ernst, and Magritte, on 20th century film, theatre, literature, and thought is inestimable.
Who took 1970's porn esthetic and made it fashion chic? Terry Richardson. Who made the trailer park trendy and the tractor hat ? Richardson again. Who's equally at home in and ? Our boy Terry. Who uses his fashion money to fund an X-rated website? Yes, Richardson. And who can't resist getting his clothes off and jumping in front of his own lens? Well, that would be Terry Richardson as well.
As one of the 21st century`s most travelled, acclaimed, and influential fashion photographers, Mario Testino has unsurpassed access to the most magnetic stars of popular culture. For some time now he has been collecting a personal archive of off-screen moments, often snatched spontaneously before, during, and after more official sittings for Vanity Fair, Vogue, and Testino`s many clients in the world of fashion. The result is a portrait not just of a generation of the most wanted and talked-about, but an invitation to be part of the backstage parties and unstaged moments of Testino`s life. Sometimes offbeat, but always on the pulse, Let me in!, with Testino`s eye for a modern kind of elegance liberated from conventional polish, is a new chapter from the photographer who has already made his mark with the books Any Objections, Front Row Backstage, Alive, Portraits, Kids, Diana Princess of Wales, and numerous exhibitions and publications worldwide.

The immediacy and accessibility of video makes it an ideal medium for artists who want to work with sound and moving image; no sooner than video cameras were available to the public in the 1970s were artists already beginning to experiment with the possibilities of video. Though it took decades for it to be widely embraced by mainstream art, video is now firmly accepted as an important medium, thanks to the work of artists such as Matthew Barney, Bruce Nauman, Bill Viola, and Gillian Wearing.

The book Jazzlife, the original fruit of their labors, has become a collector`s item that is highly treasured among jazz and photography fans. In 2003, TASCHEN began reassembling this important collection of material—along with many never-before-seen color images from those trips. They are brought together in this updated volume, which includes a foreword by Claxton tracing his travels with Berendt and his love affair with jazz music in general. Utilizing the benefits of today's digital technology, a restored audio CD from Joachim Berendt's original recordings has been produced and is included in this package. Jazz fans will be delighted to be able to take a jazz-trip through time, both seeing and hearing the music as Claxton and Berendt originally experienced it.
European architecture is distinguished by a variety of forms and styles. This building diversity is influenced by architects and agencies throughout all of Europe. Many "heads" of various nationalities with a diversity of approaches and concepts contribute to this multiplicity with their creative ideas and unconventional solutions.
There are several young architects in the bunch. New offices, recent graduates, young-at-heart, interdisciplinary career changers and lone warriors provide insight into their work with both the realized projects and visions for the future depicted in this book. Today, architects work less and less within geographical borders. Nowadays, they think more globally, since competitions are increasingly advertised on an international basis. These competitions provide new architects and relatively young and inexperienced agencies with the chance of vying for larger jobs along with the well-known and well-established stars of the branch. Many of the featured buildings illustrate this continual development of borderless building. It is no longer clearly visible in whose heads they were conceived and where they were built. Europe is not only getting smaller in a political sense; this fusion is also evident in architecture.
